Charity Tuesday: National Breast Cancer Foundation
1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) was founded by breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34. As a result of early detection, she survived the disease and has devoted her life to educate women about early detection and provide mammograms for women in need. NBCF’s mission is to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need. To help fullfil it’s mission, NBCF [...]

Charity Tuesday: charity:water 5th Anniversary September Campaign
charity: water started five years ago with a simple idea: they’d share their story with the world, ask others to join them, and use 100% of the money raised to fund clean water for people in need. With your help, they’ve had explosive growth. Their partners in the field are working at capacity to implement their projects. The only way to keep fighting the water crisis at this rate is to buy the equipment their partners need to get the job done faster. Charity:water’s goal for the 2011 September Campaign is to fund a brand new drilling rig and other [...]

Charity Tuesday: Alex’s Lemonade Stand is Fighting Childhood Cancer One Cup at a Time
It all started with a lemonade stand and a lot of hope. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. That year, Alex held her first lemonade stand and raised $2000 for “her hospital.” For the next four years, Alex would continue to hold the annual lemonade stand with the hope of helping to find a cure for all childhood cancers. In [...]

Charity Tuesday: Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation
Lung cancer gets a bad rap. It has the reputation of being entirely a smokers’ disease, and, thus, doesn’t get the attention and funding it deserves. But the truth is anyone can get it. In fact, 20% of women diagnosed with lung cancer each year — about 21,000 in 2010 — have never smoked. The Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation is working hard to erase this stigma and increase the Lung Cancer survival rate. Since its birth in 2006, the BJALCF has grown into the first international collaborative entity of its kind and raised over $6 million for lung [...]

Charity Tuesday: Mercy’s Village
Founded in March of 2009, Mercy’s Village International is an organization dedicated to fighting poverty through the education of children and the empowerment of girls and young women. For most of Africa’s children, education represents the only way out of a life of poverty. Across the continent, millions of families currently subsist on less than $1.00 a day. Only children who can read, write and do arithmetic can hope to get better paying jobs when they grow up. But education is about much more than just providing job skills. It’s playing an increasingly vital role in helping children protect themselves [...]
