LIVE RUNWAY SHOW, PERFORMANCES, RED CARPET, AND HONOR CEREMONY
Los Angeles, CA (August 17, 2009) – On July 22nd at the HollyRod Foundation’s 2009 DesignCare event in Beverly Hills, over $350,000 was raised benefitting Autism and Parkinson’s disease research. The event took place at the residence of Armand Marciano, Senior Executive Vice President of GUESS? Inc. The event featured a silent auction full of luxury items, including vacation getaways, jewelry, fashion accessories, spa visits, designer handbags, massages, facials, candles, a ONEHOPE Wine gift box, and many other items. The evening also featured a live auction with prizes including a vacation to Mexico and a Barbarus Smart Car.
The event was a successful effort to raise money for families struggling with Autism, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological diseases. HollyRod Foundation founders Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete shared the story of Holly’s father’s experience with Parkinson’s disease, and then their experience with son, Rodney Jr.’s Autism. They told how they overcame hurtles and made breakthroughs with Rodney Jr’s social skills and education.
Actor Michael J. Fox and In Style Magazine’s Kelly Austing were honored for their work and personal struggles with Parkinson’s Disease and Autism respectively. There was not a dry eye in the room when Actor Michael J. Fox shared the gut-wrenching story about his personal struggle with Parkinson’s disease. The theme of the evening seemed to be optimism when he shared his tragic story with great humor and an attitude of courage and strength. In a short photograph montage film, In Style’s Kelly Austing shared her experiences as a single mother raising her two sons, one with Autism, all while on the fast-track with her career.
The ceremony was followed by a high-fashion runway show by Marchesa and a live performance by En Vogue. HollyRod Foundation co-founder, Holly Robinson-Peete, made the crowd go wild as she stepped onto the stage claiming to be “the fifth member of En Vogue.” Tray passed hors-douvres were supplied by Outback Steakhouse. ONEHOPE Wine and other cocktails were served all night at the multiple open bars.
