Best White Wines for Sangria

Dreaming of relaxing with a pitcher of ice-cold, fruit-packed sangria? Begin by choosing a fruity, high-acid white wine as your base and then give it your own spin by adding the season’s ripest fruits—from kiwi to pineapple. What kind of white wine makes the best sangria? Well, the options are endless and opinions vary, but almost everyone agrees you should purchase an inexpensive wine, since you’ll be adding a lot of flavor on top. And, because most sangria derives most of its sweetness and full flavor from fruit or added sugar, you also should look for a wine that is dry, crisp, and unoaked.

Among the most popular white wines used for this refreshing wine punch are:

  • Pinot Grigio—like ONEHOPE’s Paso Robles Pinot Grigio, with flavors of crushed stone, celery leaf, passion fruit, and yellow mango. Our 2015 Pinot Grigio was fermented in stainless steel, with no oak exposure.

  • Sauvignon Blanc—like our California Sauvignon Blanc that has been aged in stainless steel. The fermentation bouquet expresses rich lilac and sunbaked straw, with enticing flavors of fresh squeezed lime introducing a touch of minerals.

  • Riesling—such as ONEHOPE’s 2015 Monterey Riesling, a delightfully sweet wine that leads with aromas of honeysuckle flower and peach blossom. A distinctly fruity flavor profile is punctuated with notes of mango, preserved Meyer lemon, white peach, white pear, sweet ginger, and ripe kiwi.
