Host Spotlight: Meet Rena

Meet Rena, a mom and philanthropist who first heard about ONEHOPE through her favorite Cause Entrepreneur, and sister-in-law, Tracy Manning. After losing her eldest son Luke to a 2-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2014, Rena knew there was a way that she could give back and make a difference for families impacted by childhood cancer.

Keeping her son’s memory alive

With the help of her husband Todd and son Spencer, Rena created the Luke TATSU Johnson Foundation in 2016.

“He was the light of my life in so many ways and made me so proud everyday, but especially during his fight with his positive spirit and infectious smile. As a family, we felt compelled to honor Luke in a way that would make him proud. He was always so selfless, worried more about us than himself. It seemed fitting that we act on behalf of other families and join the fight to end childhood cancer. That’s how the Luke TATSU Johnson Foundation was born. Today, we like to refer to our family of supporters as Team TATSU.”

Sharing wine and giving hope

While looking for ways to support her sister-in-law Tracy’s business at ONEHOPE, Rena learned about the opportunity to host an in-person or virtual event to raise money for a cause you’re passionate about. Once the pandemic hit, Rena and Tracy came together to find a creative way to raise money for Team TATSU.

“Long before we could ever imagine what would happen if we had a pandemic that would keep us at home, Tracy and I decided to try to host a remote wine tasting. You see, Tracy lives in Colorado and I live in California, so finding a time we could do an in-person tasting with Tracy wasn’t easy. Yes, Tracy offered to connect me with a local Cause Entrepreneur, but selfishly, I wanted Tracy!”

“We decided to bring her into my home via FaceTime. I had her on my 75″ TV screen in my living room. She was amazing, had an insane ability to ‘read the room’ remotely, shared lot’s of insight on the wines we tasted, while helping us have a great time in the process. It was a super fun evening with friends, learning about and tasting great wines, all while bringing attention to my non-profit and raising money to help fight pediatric cancer, a cause so personal and important to me.”

Nourish the future with ONEHOPE

If there’s a nonprofit you’re passionate about and you’re looking for a unique way to support the cause, reach out to your local Cause Entrepreneur or visit our Host page to learn more about the events we offer at ONEHOPE. While we may not be able to gather in person this year, there are so many ways that you can sip and support a meaningful cause.

Cheers,

The ONEHOPE Wine Team
