Let’s Get Fizzical: 5 Fun Facts About Brut

Whether you pop a bottle to celebrate a promotion, or pop a bottle because it’s Wednesday and you’re feeling boujee, we can all agree that sipping a cold glass of bubbly is a great way to live your best life. If you’re as big of a fan of sparkling wine as we are, we know you’ll enjoy these 5 fun facts about our favorite giggle juice.

Glitter Champagne Bottle

Did you know…

1. It is believed that a 19 year-old-monk named Dom Perignon was making wine and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of the bubbles. It was on this day in 1693 that he exclaimed “Come quickly! I am drinking the stars!” and that is (supposedly) how champagne was first discovered.

2. There are approximately 90 lbs of pressure per square inch built up in a bottle of sparkling wine. To put this into perspective, that is about three times the amount of a typical car tire! Because of this high volume of pressure, sparkling wine bottles are usually much thicker than a standard wine bottle.

3. There are a few types of glasses that you can use to enjoy some bubbly. Coupe glasses are fun and old-fashioned, while flute glasses are more typically used. While coupe glasses are beautiful and stylish, it is important to note that your brut will stay more bubbly when using a flute.

4. A champagne cork has the ability to reach the velocity of 40 miles per hour when popped out of a bottle. To date, the longest recorded flight of a cork is 177 feet and 9 inches!

5. If you love the look of a Gatsby-style champagne tower and want to have it at your next party, you’ll need to know how to build it first. Here’s an example of how many glasses you’ll need for a large tower:

-Level 1 : 60 glasses

-Level 2 : 30 glasses

-Level 3 : 10 glasses

-Level 4 : 4 glasses

-Level 5 : 1 glass

You can however build a smaller 26 glass tower, or size it according to your party. Just

note that all the glasses need to be touching, and you should use coupe glasses for this

fun party feature. Not sure how much brut you’ll need? It takes about one bottle of

bubbly per 5 glasses so you can do the math according to how many glasses are in your

tower!
