Whether it’s to make a little extra cash, start a new career, or spend more time with family, there are plenty of reasons to join the ONEHOPE community and become a Cause Entrepreneur. If you’re interested in learning more about what it’s like to sell wine from home, host at home wine tastings, and make a difference in the world around you, look no further. Hear first-hand from one of our amazing Cause Entrepreneurs, Heather, below!
1. How did you first learn about ONEHOPE?
My friend, Nicolasa Moreau, shared with me that she had joined ONEHOPE and that there was a great sale on wine. I wanted to support her so, of course, I bought some wine! The rest is history….
2. What were you doing prior to joining us?
I was working per diem as a Registered Nurse. I wanted to reduce my hours so that I could spend more time with my two little ones who at the time were just 2 and 3 years old. I was able to do that after just 7 months or so of being with ONEHOPE which was truly amazing!
3. How do you find the balance between being a full-time mom and a Cause Entrepreneur?
Being a CE with ONEHOPE allows me the flexibility I NEED as a Mom to two little ones. I am able to book my events and meetings with potential clients around my family schedule as well as around my current full-time work schedule. I set specific goals each month around the number of events I’d like to book and conduct, and set those dates around other priorities in my life. It’s very empowering to know that I am in control of my ONEHOPE calendar!
4. Who is your womanspiration and why?
WOW! This is a tough one for me because there have been so many women in my life that have inspired and motivated me both personally and professionally. One “womanspiration” of mine is a surgeon I worked with while I was a Registered Nurse. She showed me that this life is ours to create. She lives her life without fear which has allowed her to go for and truly achieve every goal she has set for herself along the way. She has experienced challenges as we all do, but has worked through them with tenacity and vision and has come through all of them stronger. She LOVES to learn and has shown me what it means to have a “growth mindset.” She really listens when you speak to her and embraces the quality of “caring” about others. She reminds me still to this day the power of living in the present which can be difficult to do, but so powerful when we do it. She is real and raw and balances a family with her practice and she does it with grace. I truly look up to her and her outlook on life.
5. What goals have you set for yourself in 2019?
-To surround myself with people that lift me up, support me, and challenge me.
-To read 24 new books. Knowledge is power and allows for growth.
-To focus on building real relationships with my team mates at ONEHOPE first and THEN allowing our businesses to grow organically as a result of those relationships while supporting one another both personally and professionally.
-To prioritize my little ones first and foremost.
-To be present and to listen when I get the opportunity to connect with others and share time with them.
-To think about others perspectives before jumping to conclusions.
-To complete another triathlon…because, why not?
-To travel at least once every 6 weeks!
6. What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs?
-Be true to yourself and your values. Follow your curiosity. I believe both of these things lead us in the “right” direction, whatever that may be.
-ALWAYS make time for YOU…even if it is just 5 minutes during the day.
-Set big, huge, scary goals and START somewhere…take that one step to drive forward. Momentum is a crazy thing!
-Surround yourself with people that are better than you, more skilled than you, smarter than you.
7. What is one obstacle you faced recently and how did you overcome it?
When I was applying for my now full-time job, I was originally told I wasn’t “good on paper.” In other words, I didn’t have the experience that the hiring manager was looking for. However, I knew that I could do the job and do it well and that in fact, I did have the experience that was required, just in a very non-traditional sense. I managed to get myself an interview after several reach outs and some networking. I was determined to share why I was the perfect candidate in an articulate way without “reacting” to the original feedback. I believed in my abilities and knew my worth. I successfully tied in my entrepreneurial experience with ONEHOPE and explained why that was so important in this role. I was able to provide examples of how my experience as a Registered Nurse as well as my experience in Financial Services (a past life) did in fact relate to this opportunity by using out of the box examples. Be believing in myself, being persistent, and getting a little creative, I was able to land the job!
8. Do you feel like you’ve made an impact on the world around you? If so, please explain.
Absolutely yes! Every day we are all given the opportunity to make an impact on the world around us. Do you want it to be positive or negative? Do you want to leave someone smiling and feeling great OR do you want to leave them feeling crappy and negative? Through ONEHOPE, I am able to give back every time I share our products and the business opportunity. The super fun experiences I get to have with customers at our events and business partners that I interact with because of ONEHOPE are so awesome! Myself, and those around me, are left feeling happy and positive… I mean, we are dealing in wine after all right?! The nonprofits I have been able to give back to, especially the smaller nonprofits, are so grateful for the donation we are able to provide them.
9. With International Women’s Day approaching, what female causes are close to your heart?
Breast cancer is a cause that has always been close to my heart. My aunt is a three-time survivor and seeing what she has endured and the positivity that she exudes around life is simply amazing!
10. Tell us one thing that not many people know about you!
Every night before I fall asleep, I take three deep breaths in and out. On the first I say “Inhale Confidence. Exhale Doubt.” On the second I say “Inhale Love. Exhale Hate.” And on the third I say “Inhale Give. Exhale Take.”
