How to Plan an Awesome Grammy Party in 2018

With awards season in full swing, it’s time to think about throwing your own rocking Grammy party. Here’s how to make an event that is memorable and fun!

The Date

Save the date. This year the Grammys will be held on January 28th at 7:30 (4:30 PST) pm. It’s happening at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Décor

We love the idea of dressing up the party by treating your event like a royal affair. Hit a local craft shop and purchase some red fabric, then roll it out from the curb to your front door. Turn your entry hall into a photo booth with simple props and a digital camera (or disposable camera) on a table nearby. This way, when your guests arrive they’ll get to first walk the red carpet, and then have their photo snapped like a true VIP.

Once inside, consider rearranging your living room. If you’re hoping for a more formal event, make sure that everyone has a seat to sit in. Hanging curtains around your TV can give it a theatrical effect!

The Guest List

Consider keeping your guest list intimate. The larger the guest list, the greater the ambient noise of the event. Considering this is a party built around watching and listening to an awards show, you’ll want to set your party up for success. Aim for about ten guests.

And, since we’re keeping it small, you can have a little bit of fun with invitations. Head to a local thrift store and pick up some old CDs or records. Use computer generated printer labels to turn these relics into really cool invitations. Here’s a simple guide to help you do it.

The Music

Since this is a party about music, you should expect to present a pretty epic playlist. Create an iTunes or Amazon music playlist full of the songs up for awards this year. (Here’s a full list of the nominees.) Since you can purchase single songs (vs full records), it shouldn’t be an expensive investment. Streaming services like Pandora may even offer a pre-made “Grammy” playlist that you can download. Keep in mind that you’ll want to chat with your guests, so plan on keeping the music to a low level so that no one has to yell to be heard.

If you really want to go all out, consider renting or borrowing a karaoke machine and letting your guests sing the hits before (or after!) the main event.

The Food

You’ll want to offer finger friendly snacks that make it easy to munch as the night passes. Things that require utensils (or are extra messy) can be intimidating if a guest is dressed up, and create a huge mess for you to clean up later. Instead, opt for things that can be held in one hand and are generally clean. Here’s a list to get you started.

The Drink

We’ve made this one easy for you. Check out our list of custom Grammy cocktails – one for each ‘Album of the Year’ nominee. Allow your guests to show support for their pick with their drink! Of course, you can always choose to provide a straight beer or wine option, as well. (If you’d like to serve ONEHOPE wine at your event, you should place your order soon.) Don’t forget to also offer plenty of water and non-alcoholic options as well.

Don’t forget to offer activities to your guests. You could hand out some awards of your own (best dressed, for example) or offer other party games. We love the idea of creating a mock ballot and letting guests vote for their favorites in each category.
