Royal Wedding Watch Party Ideas

Grab your biggest hat, bake up some scones, and pop a bottle of bubbly, because it’s time to throw an extravagant Royal Wedding viewing party! We may not have been invited to Meghan & Harry’s big day, but we sure will be drinking like we were! If you’re looking to throw an elegant soirée to watch the happy couple tie the knot, we’re here to help! We’ve compiled a list of tips and recipes for throwing the ultimate watch party with your friends.

Royal Wedding Broadcast Times

The best place to start before planning your party is figuring out where to watch the Royal Wedding in the U.S. Town and Country Magazine outlined every station that will be providing coverage on the day of the event. Most channels will start their commentary bright and early (don’t forget the time difference) around 4-5 a.m. EST on May 19th. While this may be a bit early for some, keep in mind that the Royal Wedding service will begin around 7 a.m. EST. Check out this article on what time to watch the Royal Wedding on Time.com. Record the event in advance, or have a pajama party for the early risers in your group!

Send Your Invitations

Compile your guest list and send out invitations either electronically or by mail for the viewing party. We love the idea of using cute British inspired postcards as invitations! Set the date (May 19th) and time for the event as well as the location. Make sure to include an email or phone to RSVP.

Order Sparkling Brut for Your Event

Once your invitations are sent, allow yourself at least a week to order all the alcohol you need for your party. Since this is an early morning celebration, we recommend our ONEHOPE brut to make the perfect morning mimosas and signature drinks. Ordering a combination of regular sparkling wine bottles, shimmer bottles, and glitter bottles is the best way to create a fun variety for your party while also incorporating the most instagrammable wine bottles around for your photos!

Make a Signature Royal Wedding Cocktail

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are big fans of floral flavors, which is why they ordered a lemon elderflower wedding cake from a London-based pastry chef for their big day. We thought it would only be fitting to create a signature drink for your Royal Wedding watch party that incorporates these trendy flavors!

Elderflower Champagne Cocktail

To make our Royal Wedding signature drink, you will need the following:

Elderflower Lemonade

-ONEHOPE Brut

-Sugar Cubes

-Bitters

-Edible flowers for garnish (optional)

Combine equal parts sparkling brut and elderflower lemonade in a coupe glass. Add a sugar cube and a drop of bitters. Stir to combine. Garnish with an edible flower or a fresh sprig of herbs.

Create Tiered Trays with Bite Sized Food

Round out your British-themed party with adorable finger foods! Purchase (or make your own) scones, tea sandwiches, fruit, and pastries and arrange them on tiered platters. Arrange them throughout your viewing party area (close to a TV!) and place napkins and labels by the space so everyone knows what they are enjoying! Here’s a pro tip: to make tea sandwiches at home, use a small round or square cookie cutter to shape your bread and garnishes for quick assembly! Check out the best way to arrange your tiered tray below.

Arrange a Tea Tasting Table

A Royal Wedding party wouldn’t feel complete without an assortment of teas. Purchase a few boxes of tea bags and provide a variety of flavors to choose from. We recommend shopping Twinings of London, since it is ever-so-fitting, and purchasing a black tea, green tea, and floral tea option for your guests. Arrange your tea bags on a platter and place 3 teapots and cups around the table. Your guests will feel like royalty sipping on fresh brewed tea and champagne when the broadcast begins!

Dress Accordingly

Guests of the royal wedding will be dressed to the nines, so why not do the same to watch at home? If you aren’t sure what to wear, think floral dresses, button downs with bow ties, big hats, white gloves, and pearls galore. To make the attire even more fun, throw a hat contest! Tell your attendees ahead of time that the guest who arrives in the most ridiculous hat will win a prize!
