ONEHOPE Thanksgiving Traditions

While most of us will likely be feasting on classic dishes like turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes with loved ones on Thursday, there are plenty of unique and meaningful traditions that each family has outside of the food. We asked the ONEHOPE team to share some of their favorite traditions with us to celebrate turkey day!

Thanksgiving Traditions

Classic Food with a Twist

“My mom makes a really delicious chocolate pie that we always eat but never finish. The tradition is “chocolate pie for breakfast” the day after Thanksgiving… usually the first ones awake finish it off :)” – Erik

“My family has made a new tradition of busting out three fryers, and cooking multiple turkeys for the whole neighborhood. Everyone sits around outside while they cook, drinking, catching up, and having a great time!” – Lauren

“We feast on chicken (turkey is so 2015,) then we play eggnog pong! (ok, not really, but we do drink eggnog and play a ping pong tournament!) gobble gobble!” – Matt

“Our Thanksgiving tradition is the morning after turkey breakfast bowl! We all layer in the leftovers from Thanksgiving in our bowls and enjoy dinner for breakfast. Everyone has something different to add to their bowl and it’s a warm bowl of yumminess to start the day. Our favorite part of Thanksgiving!” – Tracey

Family Activities

My family’s Thanksgiving tradition is hosting a mini talent show! All members of the family must participate (with the exception of the cooks…because their talent is making the food!) My grandfather & brother usually play the acoustic guitar together, my dad will make us endure a stand-up comedy session of endless dad jokes, and my younger sister and I will usually team up to do a dance routine. It’s a great way to stay awake after the big turkey lunch.”- Marcella

“Waking up early (after the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving) for the Turkey Trot 5K – a great way to make room for all that stuffing! #CountDemSteps” – Mike

“Our family tradition is that I dress my youngest like a turkey! :)” – Andrea

Kicking-Off The Holidays

“Our family cooks dinner and afterwards we all put up my mother’s tree with our homemade childhood ornaments, and our children’s homemade ornaments… so about 40 years worth of memories.” – Kimberly

“A newer tradition my family started is watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thanksgiving morning. We also enjoy mimosas (with ONEHOPE Brut, of course) during the parade and after we all work together to prepare the last dishes for our Thanksgiving meal as a family! At night, all the girl cousins always do a giant, Christmas send-off / Black Friday shopping spree on Thanksgiving. At midnight, we pile in a car in Christmas PJs, get Starbucks Peppermint White Mochas, play *NSYNC “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” and hit the stores to go shopping!” – Emilee

“Each year after we’re stuffed to the gills, we migrate to the couch and kick-off the holiday season by watching Elf! I now have two baby nephews that I’m so excited to share this holiday tradition with!”- Megan

“It’s not Thanksgiving morning unless the Macy’s parade is on the tv and there is coffee in my hand! BUT you really know it’s Thanksgiving when you hear ‘Mr. Peterman’s’ voice welcome you to The Dog Show! Yes, it always comes on right after Santa closes out the parade, not sure why but it sets the tone for a proper Thanksgiving!” – Amanda

“We eat Thanksgiving dinner outside on the patio because it’s (usually) beautiful and warm enough to do so in Arizona! After we get the kids to bed, my husband and I put on our jammies, pour a yummy glass of ONEHOPE Wine, and conquer Black Friday on our laptops! It’s my favorite way to shop (at home, on the couch, wearing pajamas and drinking wine)!” – Kristen
