The History of the Aperol Spritz

The Italian aperitif of Aperol was first created in Padua, Italy by the Barbieri brothers in 1919. It was not until the 1950s that the Aperol Spritz was born and quickly became a popular alternative to the classic Venetian mix of white wine and soda.

In 2003, the Aperol brand was acquired by the Campari Group who was able to create a successful campaign around the spritz, positioning it as the “perfect drink for social occasions,” leading to a 4x increase in sales. Since then, the Aperol Spritz has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest toast, and can be found on pretty much any menu in Italy to enjoy on a cobblestone patio.

Here are some fun ways you can enjoy this bubbly beverage!
